They Say It's Your Birthday!
My birthday doesn't happen for officially another 10 days, then I'll be 28. Almost 30. Which isn't so bad, it's not like I'm 40 or anything. If I was, I'd be screaming bloody murder at the lack of accomplishments I've achieved in my life so far, but thankfully that amount when I'm 27 isn't nearly as horrendous. Decided to enroll into CUNY Hunter College, where I'll major in French and Creative Writing. I speak French and I'm a good writer, IMO, so focusing on that I think is smart idea. What'll come of it, who knows? But at least at the end I'll have a Bachelor's degree to show for it. This birthday I doubt will be that memorable, another day in NYC or with family depending if I'm down in VA or not. Don't really care though. Birthdays don't really do it for me anymore. Yeah, you were born on it, which is cool and you may happen to share the same date with a few celebrities (Alyssa Milano included!), but at the end of the day, it's passed and you're another year older, maybe wiser...I know I will be this year. No more reckless stuff that could potentially get me in trouble, that's my birthday wish. Between now and my actual birthday, this whole declaration could change from what I just typed. We'll see.

Working at The Onion!
Technically, it's the Onion Sports Network, a spoof of ESPN. Been interning there for a few weeks now, and I have to say, I love it. Initially, I was working in the Reserach department, looking up video clips and photos to reference and use in their sketches, but I was recently moved to the Art department to help out there. As much as I liked working there though, I think it was a good move for me. For one, I'm not cooped up in an office all day, which was getting to me. This way, I can be outside for the most part running errands and also physically, I get to help out the crew with getting props from set and running back and forth from office to office. Typically, I probably spend about 12 hours a day there, but I love it. The Sagittarius in me was meant to be doing this kind of work because lately, it's been stagnant, frustrated as to not be doing what it wants to do. I would love for this to become a paying job. It may not be in the high numbers, but for me, the work feels satisfactory enough to where I don't mind it. Granted, I will need some form of income sooner later. I'm doing various gigs here and there, but I do need something more consistent where I know that something coming at the end of the week/2 weeks.

Jack Peñate, Chairlift, and The XX....oh my!
Saw an amazing concert at Central Park Summerstage last night. Some British bands are head scratchers, yeah. I thought that Jake Penate was going to be just okay, since he was the opener, but he blew me away. He's really passionate and soulful, the audience warmed up to him after the first song.
Chairlift is from Williamsburg, Brooklyn actually, but the way they sound you'd think they were English. The lead singer's voice is incredible. Very out there, like she's haunting a house, but more ethereal. Plus, she's totally gets into her performance, dances and everything, you can tell she loves it. At one point she started singing, but stopped because the guitarist was off. She said she wanted it to be perfect for us. She looked incredible up there. I think I have a crush on her :)
The XX didn't go on for about half an hour for some reason, but once they did, spectacular. I wasn't familiar with them going in, but def a fan now. Can't believe they're all 20-21, the lead singer told us he just turned it, so now he can drink onstage :P Amazing band tho, very low and subdued, but they somehow mix this energy in there that keeps them from sounding depressing a la Morrissey. Love their harmonies. Plus, they played an encore. Def would see that lineup again, and this time would pay for it :)
I do have to note that this is the second time I've been to Summerstage when it started raining. Last time was for Explosions In The Sky and they were spectacular. Starting to look at the drippage as a good sign.

school, a concert, and money
Okay, I shouldn't be stressing. School starts in about a month and aside from a bill I received for tuition, I have no actual means of paying for it right now. Granted, I haven't gotten award letter yet (thanks procrastination!). But still, the worrying part of me thinks that all my work trying to get into school is for naught since I won't be able to afford it. I can' think like that though, negative thoughts create negative energy. I'm creating what I actually am afraid will happen.
Can't do that. Have to focus on the positve. For example, I saw an amazing concert at Central Park Summerstage last night. Jack Penate, Chairlift, and The XX. I have to say, Chairlift was a highlight for me. The other two were great. But just the soaring vocals of Chairlift's lead singer sounded like some freaky sort of haunted house. Plus, her very attractive appearance belied all that. This girl was incredible and she can play the synthesizer. While there, I met these two kids from England, Lucy and Louis. Cool people. They're staying in NY for a week until they go back. Would love to go over there. That's one of my goals to head to London. I'm most likely going to get my Master's over there in Psychology or maybe Theater, but prob the former. I don't care what school it's in, well a decent one, buta s long as I can get to England everything will work itself out.
Also, presently in the running for a voice over gig that will pay $100. I know most VO experts scoff at that, but for me it's money in the bank, which I really need right now. I'm trying to take gigs that I want to do, but also pay, which is harder than it looks. I know some people think I'm a snob for turning up my nose at certain tasks, but the way I see it, why work a job you're not good at anyway? Money is like air or water, it's all around us. We can actually choose how we get it. Why walk 2 miles to a well when we can just go to the sink and get it. Easier isn't a bad thing. Going to have $100+ in cash though by Friday so I can sign up with this modeling agency online. Yeah, I know, me being a model is about the farthest thing I would expect myself to accomplish, but I'm thinking it's one of those it's so far fetched it just might work type of deals. It's gonna happen. The only thing stopping me is me and I'm a pushover.

Dogs have their day
I just sold my last cigarette, a cigarette, I sas hoping to smoke, but I guess the universe decided that I needed the extra 50 cents for something. Who am I to complain? Should stop smoking anyway, it's a bad habit.
I'm reading Imperial Bedrooms by Bret Easton Ellis. I'm only on the 4th page, so I won't tell you what I think of it...yet. I'm sitting across from the dog run @ Union Square. Got me thinking. This dog, just about to enter, decides to squat and pee. Just like that, not a care in the world that a bunch of people are watching him/her. Dogs have the freedom to do whatever they want to do. All they have is the fur on their back to worry about. They know themselves, what they want, who they are, why they're here. Meanwhile, we humans pretend to be their masters, putting them on leashes and yet, when they need to be fed or have to go to the vet for an emergency, we drop everything in our electronic filled, ego obsessed world for them. It's as if dogs have an invisible leash tied to us, an emotional one that we can't detect, but we should.
Dogs have freedom, whereas we have "freedom". I put this in quotation marks because it implies falseness, as with everything in our mundane lives. Dogs don't have any possessions, and if they do, they bury them, forgotten or found, it doesn't matter. They keep moving forward, eternally happy. I think that we humans subconsciously try to be more like dogs in their simplicity, honesty, pure lovingness and devotion. But we don't really try to talk to them. Instead, we lord over them rather than see them as equals, or at least talking buddies. They're trying to tell us something, we just need to listen, go beyond Cesar and speak, not just whisper to them.
Side note: If I do find another pack of cigarettes on the ground, I will pick it up and smoke them. I bum cigarettes, I don't buy them.

Where can I get this job?
During the time of King Henry VIII, in order to save the "royal seed" from spilling, a servant was used to catch it. Now granted, Henry VIII looked nothing like Jonathan Rhys Meyers, but if he did, dude...now where do I sign up?

Popped my blog's cherry!
This is my first and official introduction to the blogosphere. Was writing and preparing something profound to say, marking my first steps into this new venture, but this is it...hopefully whoever reads this will like it and possibly come back for more of my musings. So here goes....
Overheard this morning:
Construction worker: "Doesn't this jelly donut remind you of a girl's twat?"
...only in NYC or any other city.
